About
The NBC Community Development Corporation, a faith-based organization and the outreach arm of the New Bethel Church, will host the 7th Annual Family 101 5K Event on Saturday, October 3rd from 10AM – 12PM via a virtual platform. This is a highly anticipated event for many throughout the metro each year. Due to the pandemic, we are hosting this year’s event in a different way, but with the same goal in mind: TO HELP SUPPORT FAMILIES!

Participation
Everyone can register for FREE at nbccdc.org.  All participants will choose their own route location to walk, run or bike. It can be anywhere from a local track, nearby park trail or perhaps a treadmill in the middle of the living room. The opportunities are endless! On October 3rd everyone will participate in a virtual 5K by tuning in on facebook at facebook.com/nbccdc  or  facebook.com/NewBethelKC. The Warm-up and Pre-Event information will air at 9:45AM and the 5K will begin at 10AM. Community leaders & guests such as Pastor A. Glenn Brady (The New Bethel Church KCK), Gabriella Pagan (KSHB 41), Lisa Garcia-Stewart (Director of Student Services for KCKPS), Christal Watson (Executive Director USD 500 School District Foundation) are among those that will host our virtual efforts via Facebook LIVE. We are encouraging everyone to safely post videos and photos of their participation during the event while using the hashtag: #letsmovewyco in hopes that the online community is flooded with support and encouragement throughout the entire event.

Support
Although this is a FREE event, donations are encouraged. Donations are accepted at nbccdc.org. It’s not too late to become a sponsor of this year’s event! Our current sponsors include Vibrant Health Wyandotte Neighborhood Clinics, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, Community Health Council of Wyandotte County, KU School of Nursing, KUMC and Swope Health Services.
All proceeds from this year’s 5K will help support families during COVID-19 and other programs and projects of the NBC Community Development Corporation. The programs include KCK Public Schools Student Re-entry Support, McKinney-Vento -supporting student/family homelessness, Broadband Support to students without WIFI in their homes for virtual schooling, tutoring services, maintaining a full community food pantry, warm clothes and meals for underprivileged families and so much more!
